Andre Wisdom seems to tick all the boxes to become a Celtic signing with most hoops fans happy to declare that ‘in Brendan we trust’.
The reunion of manager and player looks to be on the cards as the right-back position becomes a growing, and complex, problem for Rodgers to resolve.
Mikael Lustig has yet to regain the form or conviction that he showed three seasons ago but surgery on both hips is never likely to be straightforward.
After his disastrous showing against Hapoel Beer Sheva it must be odds against seeing Saidy Janko featuring regularly in the hoops.
The complex issue in the equation is Anthony Ralston who appears to have made a big impression on the new Celtic boss.
The impression hasn’t yet led to starting a competitive match. If Rodgers can get Wisdom in it looks likely that Ralston will go out on loan for the season rather than hang around for half a dozen cameo appearances.
Wisdom may not have made much of an impact out on loan at Norwich and Derby but as he proved with Dorus de Vries Rodgers has a long memory for players he rates.
Speaking before sending Wisdom on loan to West Brom two years ago Rodgers said: “He had a very successful period at Derby last year, he did very well under Steve McClaren.
“He now has the opportunity to go to another very good coach in Alan Irvine, who I know from my youth days. He is an excellent coach and West Brom are an excellent club.
“West Brom have been a rising club for the last few years in the Premier League. He’ll go there and it will be another chance for his education and development to continue.
“He’ll join up with them sooner rather than later and spend the season there on loan. That will be another step for him in his development, playing regularly in the Premier League.”
Last season Wisdom made 10 Premier League appearances for Norwich, with his profile matching in with other Rodgers signings it looks likely that his next move will be north to Celtic.
