Jim Duffy couldn’t believe his luck when Celtic agreed to self Aidan Nesbitt on loan to Morton until January.

The teenager is widely regarded as one of the most talented players in Scottish football and has been capped at every level up until u-19.

A loan deal in the second half of last season to Partick Thistle didn’t quite work out but the chance to enjoy regular first team football in the Championship should benefit all involved.

Commenting on the Morton website Duffy said: “Aidan is another talented young player who we’ve been able to bring in on loan. He’s a terrific young footballer but he’s only 19 so we don’t want to put too much expectation on him.

But he certainly has really good ability and again gives us another dimension at the top of the pitch and that is important to us. And with Kudus [Oyenuga] and Aidan coming in it’s given us real options and competition there now.

We spoke to Chris McCart a few weeks ago regarding Aidan and he wasn’t just quite ready to go out at that time because they had the new manager coming in and they were assessing things.

It just took a wee bit of time for that to clear and Brendan [Rodgers] gave the go-ahead and the boy was delighted to come to us, so I’m really pleased about that. He trained with us this morning and will be in the squad for tonight’s Betfred Cup tie against Hamilton.”

Nesbitt will join Jamie Lindsay on loan at Cappielow with the list of young players out on loan growing by the day. Last week Joe Thomson went to Dumbarton, Fiacre Kelleher is with Peterhead, Paul McMullan at Dunfermline and Michael Duffy is with Dundee.
