Gobby Joey Barton has trashed Mark Warburton and his team-mates in a radio interview.

Monday morning looks like being fireworks day at state-of-the-art Murray Park as the former city trader goes head to head with the former inmate of Strangeways Jail in Manchester.

Since being sent home from training Barton has been feeling sorry for himself and contacting his media friends in England who are sympathetic to his fake intelligence.

As a jobbing footballer that has been relegated twice from the Premier League the 34-year-old Scouser has achieved nothing on the pitch but with a catalogue of disciplinary problems including a stint in Strangeways his high pitched voice appeals to radio stations.

Sevco haven’t fined or suspended Barton but going public with his grievances isn’t likely to be appreciated by the minions filling the blue room of dignity.

In a clear challenge to the authority of Warburton, Barton told TalkSport listeners: “I don’t believe I’ve done anything to apologise for.

It’s the tone of language I used. Maybe I don’t communicate like someone who has been educated at Eton.

I don’t use grammatically correct sentences — that’s not me, I’m from Liverpool (NB many people from Liverpool can construct sentences).

I want to win football matches. That’s how I communicate and it can be bristling at times. For that I take responsibility. Maybe I could communicate better, I accept that.”

Turning to the squad of misfits Warbo has assembled for a tilt at the Champions League Barton said: “The team isn’t functioning well and I am a huge part of that but we all aren’t playing well. Is it down to lack of desire? No.

It’s about improving as a team, hence why we are having these conversations.

A lot of people are criticising me and rightly so. I’ve come up to Scotland and been a little too brash. I said I want to win the league for Rangers and I do. I do care.

The difficulty lies in the team not doing as well as it can. As a player, you are only as good as your team-mates.”
