Moussa Dembele was the talk of the town as the young Frenchman tucked away a derby hat-trick.

Each goal was different and held it’s own merits with the Celtic fans delighted to see the start of what looks like becoming a very memorable career

The first signing of any new manager is going to come under extra scrutiny, with the attention given to Rodgers a marquee signing was expected.

Half a million pounds for a French teenager wasn’t quite what most fans had in mind but after yesterday Rodgers may indeed have delivered a ‘marquee’ as his first signing.

Almost certainly Dembele would have been a substitute had Leigh Griffiths been fot but football is about taking your chances with the former Fulham striker not slow to grasp his opportunity with both hands.

Playing as the sole striker seemed a task that he enjoyed- with James Forrest, Tom Rogic and Scott Sinclair providing support the job became a pleasure.

Griffiths was among the first of his team-mates to offer on-line congratulations, it’s almost forgotten that within the hat-trick Dembele provided a significant assist for Scott Sinclair to score Celtic’s third goal.

It’s unlikely that a genuine Rodgers twitter account will appear, in it’s absence the Celtic boss used more traditional means to praise yesterday’s star man.

Yesterday Rodgers said: “Moussa could play every week but I have to make the team work, the team has to work well. Sometimes he will play, sometimes he won’t.

Leigh is a wonderful finisher but it wasn’t his day today. It was a day for Moussa and the rest of the guys. He scored three great goals, he’s a 20-year-old player and you can see he’s a big talent, but he’s come to a club where he can hopefully develop that talent.”
