Wallace walks out on Scotland and heads to Linfield

|

After 48 hours with the Scotland squad Lee Wallace has pulled out with a mystery injury.

Waldo, who has played four top flight matches in the last four years, was fit enough to travel with his Sevco team-mates to Belfast for a friendly with Linfield.

An injury to Kieran Tierney saw the former Hearts ace called into Gordon Strachan’s squad but just like he did for the end of season friendlies with Italy and France Waldo has pulled out injured.

For the best part of four years Sevco fans have been bumping their gums about the wonders of the Ibrox left-back as he starred against part-timers and lower division opponents.

Strachan has regularly had to field questions about Waldo and has had to show his limited diplomatic skills to explain why he picks players playing in the Europa League or English Premier League.

When John McGinn of Hibs was picked for a friendly last season Strachan almost had to issue an apology to explain why Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney had been selected.

After a brief call up followed by a trip to Belfast for a weekend of people’s culture the commitment of Waldo is likely to come under question.

Scotland play Malta on Sunday in the opening match of their World Cup qualifying campaign that sees them take on England at Wembley later this year.

With Waldo injury prone at international times the Sevco skipper may have pulled out of a squad for the last time.
