Brendan Rodgers has revealed that he won’t be forced or pushed into transfer business.

After reaching the group stage of the Champions League and going public about looking to bring more creativity to his squad the transfer window closed with only Cristiano Gamboa added to the squad that held off Hapoel Beer Sheva.

Rodgers would have been inundated by offers from agents anxious to give their clients Champions League football but rather than snap up anyone the hoops boss is content to play a waiting game.

I wanted to bring in another creative midfield player to support the boys we have here, but I will never bring in anyone for the sake of bringing in a player,” Rodgers told Celtic TV.

“It has to be the right player, has to be the right profile, otherwise you waste time, money and energy.

“We tried everything we could to get the right quality of player, but the players were not available and you can’t get a player if a club doesn’t want to sell them or loan them. I am delighted with the players we have here,”

Rodgers brought in five players during the transfer window with the club almost balancing out those dealings by selling Stefan Johansen and Stefan Scepovic while Charlie Mulgrew, Anthony Stokes, Colin Kazim Richards and Carlton Cole were removed from the wage bill.

Celtic can expect to raise their turnover by over £30m thanks to reaching the group stage of the Champions League and the increase in season ticket sales triggered by Rodgers appointment.
