UEFA are set to throw the book at Legia Warsaw after a shameful return to the Champions League after a 20 year absence.

Borussia Dortmund’s 6-0 win was marred by shameful scenes before during and after the match as Legia’s Ultra’s went to town with their full repertoire of criminal actions.

Before the match the Ultra’s unfurled a massive banner then he;d aloft hundreds of fireworks which could have resulted in tragedy if one firework had reached the banner.

The fireworks continued throughout the match alongside orchestrated attacks on the Dortmund fans, the return match in Germany is likely to be one of the most closely monitored matches in UEFA history.

Yesterday UEFA announced: Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Champions League group stage match betweenLegia Warszawa and Borussia Dortmund, played on 14 September in Poland.

Charges against Legia Warszawa:

Crowd disturbances – Art. 16 (2) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR)
Setting off of fireworks – Art. 16 (2) DR
Throwing of objects – Art. 16 (2) DR
Insufficient organization – Art. 16 (1) DR
Racist behaviour – Art. 14 DR
Stairways blocked – Art. 38 of UEFA Safety & Security Regulations.

It seems that the main fear of Legia is whether or not the chants were anti-semitic or not.

Responding to the incidents before being charged by UEFA, Legia stated: “The media reports suggesting that Legia fans supposedly shouted “Jude Jude BVB” are not true. It has been determined that the fans shouted “Nutte Nutte BVB”. This is a chant offensive to Borussia Dortmund and their fans, sung by fans of other German teams. It does not, however, have any anti-Semitic or racist context. Nevertheless, we truly apologise to German and Polish fans of Borussia Dortmund who felt offended.

As to all the people who disrupted public order in the West Stand and in the away fans sector, strict consequences are going to be drawn against them.”

UEFA will announce their punishments on September 28 with Legia’s next home match coming against Real Madrid on November 2.
