Police Scotland are seeking a high profile Sevco fans’ leader in connection with the shameful scenes of violence that marred the Scottish Cup Final with Hibs.

Over 70 arrests have been made so far with cops keen to interview Vanguard Bears spokesman Gary Lenaghan after he was identified on social media.

Five months after the match Police Scotland are still trawling through footage from Hampden to bring to justice those involved in the after match violence.

The Vanguard Bears tend to keep a low public profile but Belfast based Lenaghan has offered himself up as a spokesman for the fans group who have been behind a number of distasteful stunts.

In 2013 they published a poster of ‘Enemies of Rangers’ with an X across the face of Paul McBride QC and Paul McConville and asked for ‘any personal favourites’ over who should be crossed out next.

At the weekend Police Scotland issued pictures of 14 fans that they are looking to question with Lenaghan’s name being put forward as a suspect.

Justifying their fans action in invading the pitch the Ibrox club stated: “We acknowledge that a tiny minority of Rangers fans also encroached on the pitch but only after having been faced with prolonged and severe provocation and in order to protect our players and officials who were being visibly attacked in front of them.

Any club’s supporters would have done the same. This distressing and deeply disturbing episode would never have happened had Hibs fans behaved properly but as they swarmed across the pitch it became immediately obvious that the security procedures were inadequate and had failed.”

So far 76 arrests have been made in relation to the after match violence.
