Joey Barton has negotiated a £1m pay off from Sevco according to the John James website.

The former Strangeways Prison inmate had his club suspension lifted last week and returned to Murray Park on Thursday.

After one day of humiliation Barton sent in a doctors line with the details passed on from within Ibrox to some favoured news outlets.

Accompanying the news was the claim that a pay off was close to being completed equal to eight weeks pay.

Having been hung out to dry by this club it seemed unlikely that Barton would accept around £200,000 as a pay off which would also involve a gagging order relating to his time at Ibrox.

According to the John James website Barton’s legal team have negotiated FOUR payments of £250,000 with their client free to return to football in January to top up his Ibro pay off.

JJ reports: “His advisers, who had Rangers over a constructive dismissal barrow, negotiated a £1m pay off, with staggered payments of £250,000. The English FA have been informed of the deal and will ensure that Barton is paid.

His contract with Rangers, which was due to expire on 31st May, 2018, has been rescinded. Barton’s agent, Willie McKay, who I am led to believe threatened Rangers with an employment tribunal, knew that he had the upper hand.

The only concession that the rogue board managed to achieve was the staggered nature of the payments. Until such time as Barton is paid in full, he will keep his own counsel on the debacle at The Casino Club. I would be surprised if Mr McKay accepted anything less than £500,000 in advance, with two payments of £250,000 by the end of Q1, 31st March 2017; and Q2, 30th June 2017.

The third and final payment in the close season is designed to take the heat off any revelations about how Auchenhowie is the Trumpton of football academies. The 1-5 reverse in the game at Celtic Park has had a £1m sting in the tale.”

After reports of a bust up with Andy Halliday and Mark Warburton following the defeat at Celtic Barton was initially told to stay away from Murray Park.

That escalated into a three week suspension on full pay with a further week added before the suspension became indefinite.

In the meantime the man that was brought in to sell season tickets on the #goingfor55 slogan has been slaughtered left right and centre by former Ibrox players and advised to quit the club without having his contract honoured.
