Dave King has warned Mark Warburton that he must take Sevco into the group stage of the Europa League if he wants to bring in any new players.
The Ibrox side are locked in a scrap for second place with Hearts, Aberdeen and St Johnstone, with Scotland allocated three Europa League places two will go to the SPFL and one given to the Scottish Cup winners or runners-up.
There are major doubts over whether Sevco meet strict UEFA licensing laws but at this morning’s AGM Warbo was told in blunt terms what he must do to get access to the transfer war-chest.
“It is my belief that Rangers is presently well enough resourced to achieve our next major football objective – a return to Europe,” King told shareholders. “A further investment in players will be required at that point.”

Confirming the lack of cash available to invest in the company earlier on King told the people: “Given that your Company is only now beginning to recover from the financial recklessness of the past few years, I can assure all shareholders that your Board will not betray the well-founded process of recovery by sacrificing a number of future seasons in an imprudent financial attempt to influence any immediate one – whether now or in the future.”
It seems that the continued attempts to ditch the contracts with Sports Direct are draining the club of cash with money being swallowed up in legal fees.
Rather than come to a sensible agreement with a major business player it seems that King wishes to grandstand to fans who want to see him stand up to Ashley.
Ahead of next week’s court appearances the South African based criminal said: “The last year has seen a continuation of Mike Ashley and Sports Direct’s attempts to bully your Company’s directors by suing them in their personal capacity.
“The present Board comprises supporters who signed up for this challenge and who are not intimidated in the slightest by such bullies.”
