With the transfer window opening at the end of next month speculation as to who will be arriving at Celtic Park is already under way.

Having brought in Kolo Toure, Scott Sinclair and Dorus de Vries, who he has worked with previously, it would be a shock if the name of a certain Stevie G wasn’t linked with a Brendan Rodgers reunion.

It’s probably long odds against happening but until the former Liverpool skipper signs up for a new club Celtic will be involved in the speculation.

A decade ago Roy Keane was about to fall out at Manchester United and sign for Celtic with obvious parallels between the two cases.

Keane instantly put 10,000 bums on seats but on the park his impact was limited although it is now clear the signings was not initiated by Gordon Strachan, the Irishman has recently stated that he signed for Celtic to spite Strachan as much as anything.

Clearly that wouldn’t be repeated if Gerrard was to join Celtic but the big question is what has he lost in the 18 months since he signed off at Anfield?

The MSL is a superior league to the SPFL but Celtic can be fairly certain of retaining their league title, this season and next.

If Gerrard can offer something extra in the Champions League then it’s ‘simply’ a matter of agreeing personal terms on a deal that suits both parties.

No signing can be assured of anything, managers take calculated risks all the time whenever they go into the transfer market.

If, like Toure, Rodgers feels that signing Gerrard is affordable and can add to Celtic it is down to the player but the Irishman will know the strengths and weaknesses of his former skipper.

Here at Video Celts we want the fans thoughts- would Stevie G be a good signing for Celtic to make, use the poll below to vote.
