Patrick Roberts got a taste of the Champions League last night and wants to nail down a regular place in Brendan Rodgers squad.

The on-loan Manchester City kid replaced James Forrest early in the second half and had a key role in the main moments of the game.

His through ball to Moussa Dembele created the penalty that the Frenchman scored from while an equally well timed pass set up Callum McGregor for his 87th minute chance.

Roberts started in the Nou Camp when Celtic lost 7-0 and is desperate for more Champions League action when the Catalan aces come to Celtic Park.

It was good to play my part in the goal,” the Londoner acknowledged. “I played Moussa in and he went round the player. He’s big and strong enough to do that and it was a foul.

Moussa was cool as you like to put it away. We had a few chances after that to put them to bed, but it wasn’t to be.

We couldn’t quite get the win in the end, but it was a great display to come back from 1-0 down and salvage something from the game.

We are still disappointed. We want to win every game, and when they went down to ten men we had chances, and on another day we might have scored them.

Afterwards the gaffer said it’s about the future in the Champions League for Celtic. It’s a season to learn, see what the teams are like, and see what we are like.

We aim to improve with every game. This was another part of the learning process.”

While Celtic were drawing 1-1 in Germany Barcelona missed out on the chance to secure their place in the last 16 as they crashed to a 3-1 defeat at Manchester City.

Celtic’s more realistic battle is with Gladback for third place with the bhoys having to win one of their remaining fixtures against Barca or Manchester City to pip the Germans for a place in the last 32 of the Europa League.
