Leigh Griffiths is an injury doubt for Celtic’s Champions League tie with Barcelona on Wednesday.

The striker played for Scotland against England at Wembley last Friday but was missing from the Celtic squad that won 1-0 at Kilmarnock tonight thanks to a first half goal from Stuart Armstrong.

After the match Brendan Rodgers explained: “Leigh came back from Scotland and has tightness in his hamstring so we are just having to assess that and see how it goes over the next week or so.

Is he touch and go for Wednesday? Yes. I think he felt it after Wembley. He felt it tighten in the last 15 minutes of the game when he was sprinting after the ball. He felt something then but played on so we’ll see how he gets on.

He’s had a couple of wee niggles. It’s very important if you’re not playing you have to condition, train and work well so you can last. For Leigh it’s unfortunate because I felt he did well against England.

We’ll see how it goes, if he’s not good for Wednesday then it’s okay. We have players doing very well and we’ll see how he’s doing for the weekend.”

Rodgers had no fresh injuries to report on after an uncomfortable evening on Rugby Park’s artificial surface.

It took Celtic until the 42nd minute to make the breakthrough with Armstrong picking up a loose ball just inside the penalty box, steadying himself then sending a low shot beyond home keeper Jamie McDonald.

The win lifts Celtic 13 points above second placed Aberdeen who travel to Inverness Caley Thistle on Saturday.
