Brendan Rodgers’ January transfer kitty could be in line for a boost thanks to his old club Liverpool.

According to a report in The Sun Jurgen Klopp is preparing a January move for Virgil van Dijk.

The Dutchman left Celtic for Southampton in August 2015 with the hoops believed to have negotiated a 10 cut of any future transfer profit in the £10m deal.

Van Dijk has adapted quickly to English football and has quickly attracted admirers among the top clubs.

At the end of last season he signed a new six year deal with Southampton but the former Groningen defender has never hidden his ambitions to play at a higher level.

In the current market conditions Van Dijk could be sold for over £30m which would involve around £2m finding it’s way back to Glasgow.

One complication to that windfall could be the inclusion of Sam McQueen in the deal with clubs known to use that tactic to reduce the fee for player where there is a sell on clause with another club.
