There was no fanfare and barely a whimper as Kris Commons left Celtic for Hibs on a 28 day loan that is almost certain to be converted into a full time loan next month.

With 91 goals and five SPL/SPFL winners medals Commons is one of the most significant Celtic players in recent times as the club reclaimed top spot in Scottish football.

Commons leaves Celtic with tonnes of memories and more than a little controversy mainly sparked by an incident after being substituted in the 3-1 defeat away to Molde.

That incident split the support but few can argue about his contribution to the club, especially during the incredible 2013/14 season when he scored 31 goals as an attacking midfielder.

At the end of that season Neil Lennon left with Commons future in doubt under Ronny Deila, Commons survived under Deila but there was no way back for him when Brendan Rodgers replaced Deila.

Lennon has always been an admirer, now that he has Commons on board promotion will be expected- and a return trip next season to Celtic Park…

What a debut, six minutes into a semi-final against Aberdeen Commons pinged a shot over Jamie Langfield and kicked off a fantastic Celtic career.

His arrival added a new dimension to a side that was starting to find form, alongside Gary Hooper and Anthony Stokes the goals flowed freely.

Celtic were four goals up before half-time as a new era was born with Neil Lennon’s stamp on the side sealed with the arrival of a former Nottingham Forest team-mate.

An emphatic 3-0 win over Rangers (IL) confirmed that the new look Celts feared nothing from Walter Smith’s side.

A first half double from Gary Hooper had Celtic Park bouncing before Commons pinged in the sort of 25 yard effort that was to become his trademark.

The title was lost in controversial circumstance but a marker was laid for the future, 2011 was the last year that anyone other than Celtic were champions with Rangers title secured by a team rammed full of players avoiding Income Tax through EBT’s.

It took a long time to get his first goal of the season, some would say it was well worth the wait as he dinked one over Greegsy to put Celtic 2-0 in front.

It was the last ever Glasgow derby with the Rangers club going into liquidation a few months later as their fans refused to raise the funds needed to survive.

It was a frustrating season for Commons but in this 90 minutes Celtic stamped their authority over the Ibrox side as the fans milked the death of the club that had cheated the hoops for so long.

PENALTY V SPARTAK MOSCOW 5/12/12

The goal that took Celtic into the last 16 in the Champions League- after the game he claimed that he wasn’t aware of it’s significance with Barcelona apparently leading against Benfica.

It was a heart stopping moment as Commons sent his penalty in off the underside of the crossbar but it crossed the line.

The closing eight minutes were tense and nervy but as the final whistle blew the hoops could look back with pride on 10 points taken on their return to the Champions League.

The first ever meeting with the newco came as Celtic were finding a bit of form but the Hampden surface was never one for free flowing football.

Leading by a Leigh Griffiths header Commons brilliantly struck a 20 yard shot into the net then raced off to celebrate with the fans as a place in the final of the League Cup.

Shortly afterwards a new contract was agreed with Commons remaining to collect his fourth and fifth Championship winners medal.
