Mark McGhee has been hit with a two match touchline ban for using ‘offensive, abusing and/or insulting language at referee John Beaton and a Dundee steward.

The incident happened during November 5 clash at Dens Park which Motherwell lost 2-0 having been denied a ‘ghost’ goal by Beaton when Dundee keeper Dave Mitchell appeared to carry the ball over his own goal line.

Two charges of adopting an aggressive attitude were dropped by the SFA with McGhee having another one match ban suspended until the end of the season.

That suspended match could kick in if the SFA decide to charge the Motherwell boss for his behaviour at the end of Saturday’s defeat from Celtic.

McGhee was pictured with his arms raised and being restrained by fourth official after being refused a handshake by Chris Davies.

After the match McGhee claimed that he didn’t know who the Celtic assistant was despite welcoming Davies to Fir Park in his programme notes.

McGhee will have to watch from the stand Motherwell’s match on Saturday at home to Kilmarnock and away to Aberdeen on Tuesday.
