Scottish Government respond to Ibrox concerns

The Scottish Government have responded to concerns about the safety of Ibrox Stadium by claiming that dialogue is ongoing between Sevco and the Safety Advisory Group.
Serious concerns have emerged online about the condition of three stands at Ibrox with one claim that safety netting is to be installed in January to safeguard spectators from falling objects.
Celtic are scheduled to visit Ibrox on December 31 with hoops fans concerned about their safety for a match in which they are being charged £49 for a ticket.
In reply to a request from Phil MacGiollabhain for their views the Scottish Government stated: “This is a matter for the local authority and Glasgow City Council are in recent dialogue with Rangers about the safety certificate for Ibrox and other issues.
“The club has a safety certificate which is valid until July- but clearly that can be reviewed at any time if serious issues emerge.
“The Safety Advisory Group has discussed this issue and it’s dialogue with the club is ongoing.”
When asked for clarification on the issue the reply was the Ibrox roof.
Twelve months ago play was halted and fans evacuated during a match between Sevco and Dumbarton but the game was completed while emergency work was carried out.
It’s understood that no worthwhile maintenance has been carried out on three stands inside the ground over the last decade with all income used to stop Celtic winning titles.
The Broomloan, Copland and Govan Stands are well over 30 years old with various rumours around suggesting that the roofs are now beyond repair.
Despite intense comment on line about the matter Sevco have refused to deny that there is an ongoing safety problem.
