Mark Warburton believes that big stars will be beating a path to Ibrox during the January transfer window.

Two weeks ago at the club’s fourth ever AGM Dave King warned the former city trader that he wouldn’t get any more funds until he had delivered European football.

With losses running at five times the Financial Fair Play limit set by UEFA Warbo will need to carry out some incredible transfer sales to get the club close top being permitted into Europa League qualifiers.

During the summer Warbo splashed the cash on 11 new players and has had little return for sticking 60% onto the club’s wage bill.

Joey Barton was the most spectacular and expensive signing of all but after just five SPFL matches the former Stangeways Prison inmate was mutually consented with the remainder of his contract being paid up over four instalments provided he doesn’t spill the beans on why he left Sevco.

It seems to be a picture of utter chaos ahead of the January transfer window but in a bid to shift half season tickets and create interest in the battle for second place behind Celtic Warbo put his #goingfor55 magic hat back on.

Rangers is a magnificent club,” the Evening Times reports Warbo saying. “A fantastic football institution. You had to be at Ibrox on Saturday to see that atmosphere and feel it around that magnificent football stadium.

“There is no doubt there is huge selling points to Rangers, so we’re always delighted to hear that.

“We’re not going to outbid big clubs down south for players in terms of the financial aspect, but we can demonstrate what Rangers has to offer in terms of the training complex, an iconic stadium and a magnificent support with 50,000 fans, so there’s a lot to enjoy about Rangers.

“Are we still capable of signing someone of Joey’s calibre? Absolutely, no doubt.”

In 16 top flight matches in his managerial career Warbo has won eight.
