Chris Sutton would love to be walking down the tunnel at Ibrox wearing a Celtic jersey.

Playing the old club from Ibrox brought out the best and worst in Sutton during four memorable years under Martin O’Neill.

Certain players thrive on the derby occasion with the former Chelsea man certainly in that category.

Among his many memorable appearances few will ever forget the final derby of the 2003/04 season.

The title was done and dusted, Rangers (IL) had been dumped out of the Scottish Cup as Henrik Larsson enjoyed a glorious farewell to the hoops.

After winning four out of four against the Ibrox side anything less than a win would have been a blot on Celtic’s near impeccable season.

With two minutes left Sutton left a few defenders trailing then clipped a perfect shot over EBT keeper Stefan Klos to seal a 100% rate against Alex McLeish’s men.

Recalling that season in the Daily Record Sutton said: “When I was at Celtic we had seasons like the green and whitewash and you sometimes got to the last Old Firm game with the title already in the bag.

Yet there was still the same motivation to really twist the knife in to your old foes.

It’s changed days in terms of competitiveness right now but believe me there will be guys in that Celtic dressing room like us who were determined to grind the other into the dust.”

Looking at today’s Ibrox clash Sutton added:”Celtic are on easy street. They are so far ahead there are no real ramifications if the lose. Sure, it might hurt, but it will have no bearing on the bigger picture.

The real questions will come for Rangers if they lose heavily again. It could happen.

Brendan Rodgers could chuck any old side out today and still feel confident. He’s had such a hectic schedule and he’s chopped and changed his side.

But no matter what starting 11 he sends out at Ibrox, they will be capable of doing damage.

It they roll Rangers again it will be more embarrassment for Warburton’s side and it will be difficult to see where they go. It’s getting to the humiliation stage.”
