Chris Sutton has hammered Dave King and Mark Warburton for their broken promises.

On the final day of 2016 Warbo’s side are as close to Celtic as King is to investing £30m in the tribute act.

With the league ‘race’ over before Halloween Mr King has kept a low profile out of the firing line in South Africa.

Warbo, who used to work as a city trader, has had to put a face on things, talking up finishing second as the gap to Celtic stretches on an almost weekly basis.

Keeping the fans deluded and handing over money seems to be the priority with the visit from Celtic capable of delivering an enormous reality check.

Assessing today’s match in the Daily Record Sutton writes: “It’s understandable Mark Warburton wanted to talk his club up and feed the fans lines about being the world’s most successful club and emerging from Celtic’s shadow.

The Ibrox club have been talking all year about narrowing the gap but another defeat in the big derby and it will only prove that it’s actually getting wider.

These matches are always important but today’s is absolutely massive for Rangers. There’s definitely been a shift in tone coming out of the club.

All that talk of going for 55 has gone quiet and I doubt that banner will get an airing this afternoon. I’m not surprised they have dialled down the bluster.

Dave King’s summer comments about pushing Celtic certainly haven’t come to fruition and neither has his promises about spending £30million to make his club competitive.

He has gone all quiet on that front and the fact is Warburton has not had serious money to spend and it doesn’t look like he’ll get any in January either.”

Returning to the #goingfor55 capaign Sutton added: “Rangers should have been much more sensible with what they were coming out with at the start of the campaign as it now makes them look a bit silly.

It’s like promising to give Mo Farah a run for his money and then moaning about the state of your running shoes after you get lapped.”

Warbo looks like being without international star Lee Wallace as he pays the price for keeping him on the park for the last ten minutes against Inverness Caley Thistle to hang on to three points.

Rob Kiernan will be available after the club decided to appeal a two match ban for punching Steven Anderson during the 1-1 draw with St Johnstone.
