The old year ended with a match winning goal from Scott Sinclair and songs of joy from the Celtic support.

Five months after joining the hoops from Aston Villa it’s difficult to fully describe Sinclair’s worth to Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers knew from day one that he wanted to bring the former Chelsea and Swansea attacker with him to Glasgow.

There was no fervour or great excitement about his arrival. From the outside the 27-year-old looked to be another lost talent of the Premier League, a former talent who’d lost his appetite for the game thanks to big money deals with Manchester City and Villa.

Fortunately Sinclair is cut from a different cloth. Rather than see his talent fritter away amid frustrations and hard luck stories he took decisive action and trusted Rodgers to restore his game to rude health- to the delight and amusement of the Celtic support.

After Saturday’s winner at Ibrox there will be plenty more to come from Sinclair- on the pitch and also in song.
