Celtic and Blackburn are locked in talks over Efe Ambrose.

The defender is under contract until the end of the season but has no future at Celtic.

Owen Coyle has already signed Charlie Mulgrew and Anthony Stokes although the Irishman is in talks with Neil Lennon over a loan move to Hibs.

Blackburn are unwilling to match the wages that Ambrose is on at Celtic with the two clubs trying to iron out a deal that will allow the defender to head to the Championship side..

Ambrose joined Celtic in a £1m deal from Israeli side Ashdod in August 2012 and instantly slotted in alongside Kelvin Wilson as Celtic reached the last 16 of the Champions League.

After returning from winning the African Cup of Nations with Nigeria in February 2013 he had a nightmare in the home tie against Juventus from which he never fully recovered.

Lennon and Ronny Deila continued to select Ambrose on a regular basis but the shadow of a costly mistake was never far away.

Despite reports of foreign interest Ambrose wants to stay in the UK for citizenship purposes.

If Blackburn can come to a wages agreement with Celtic the defender will be pitched straight into their battle to avoid relegation from the Championship.
