Kouassi Eboue has been rushed to hospital to be treated for malaria.
According to a report in The Sun the midfielder left training yesterday at Lennoxtown and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.
Eboue had been expected to make his Celtic debut tomorrow night against St Johnstone but will now have to wait for the results of his tests before starting his Celtic career.
Yesterday Brendan Rodgers admitted: “It’s going to be a wee bit of time for Eboue, he hasn’t trained in a while. We will get him up to speed over the next few weeks.”
Celtic’s interest in Eboue was announced in the first week of January with the player flying into the UK to complete the signing which would have included a medical.
He flew with the club to Dubai and was unable to train with his new team-mates until his work permit was approved.
Once the work permit was approved he returned to Russia to enter the UK with a travel visa.
While there will be no immediate impact on Celtic due to the injury Rodgers was keen to get Eboue quickly involved with his side and ready for the Champions League qualifiers which start in July.
According to the report the symptoms were very mild.
