Port Vale have taunted Sevco over their financial woes.

With a going concern in their accounts, emergency loans required in March, a number of legal costs that month and no overdraft facility it’s not difficult to see where the English giants are coming from.

Sevco have put in a bid which matches the £250,000 get out clause in Jak Alnwick’s contract but paying over three years is no use to Port Vale.

Chairman Norman Smurthwaite quickly dismissed the offer on Friday with further details published in today’s Daily Record.

According to the Record a Vale source said: “We don’t trust Rangers to pay the money so that money has to be received before we will cancel the contract. Unless we have the money in our bank, we won’t press that button.”

The interest in Alnwick is to provide cover for Matt Gilks who is expected to join Wigan before the transfer window closes.

It’s likely that Port Vale will be labelled greedy for standing in the way of Alnwick’s dream move with Sevco refusing to be held to ransom.

Elsewhere there seems to be absolutely no interest in any of Warbo’s players despite claims of bids coming in for Barrie McKay, Josh Windass and Martyn Waghorn.

Before Rangers (IL) entered administration in February 2012 they involved in bids for Fran Sandaza and Grant Holt of Norwich but ‘refused to be held to ransom’.
