Robertson’s rewards for failure

A new dirty war has opened up at Ibrox focusing on the income of chief executive Stewart Robertson.

The former Motherwell director was without a job when he was brought on board to help build relations with other clubs as well as the football authorities.

Stemming the incredible losses has proved a hapless task with Charles Green, Craig Mather and Graham Wallace, who used to work for Manchester City, unable to match the fans expectations with the income that the club generates.

Mike Ashley has generally been blamed for all of the club’s ills but news in the Herald that Robbo picked up a salary of £233,000 will spread alarm with the club declaring a loss of £3.3m.

Andrew Dickson, the football administrator and EBT assistant earned £158,000 which included a bonus and pension contribution.

The football industry does tend to overpay chief executives but news that Robbo is getting almost £5,000/week while the club limps on from soft loan to soft loan is bound to raise questions about what he is contributing and who appointed the former Motherwell director.

During the club’s 2016 AGM Robbo kept a low profile with most of the sound-bites coming from Dave King although tellingly the South African based criminal refused to host a media conference to discuss his future plans.

Robbo’s salary included a bonus of £53,000 but that is usually easily achieved and is in effect generally just another element of a salary.
