Chris Sutton has saluted Brendan Rodgers’ squad for matching the Lisbon Lions 26 match unbeaten start to the season.

As part of Martin O’Neill’s squad the striker knew a thing or two about breaking records and even breaking clubs!

The success of O’Neill’s squad forced Dave Murray deeper into tax avoidance scams that left the club toxic as they headed for administration followed by liquidation.

On the park O’Neill inherited a squad that finished 24 points behind Dick Advocaat’s world-beaters and turned that around into a treble winning side that cantered to the title 21 points ahead of the opposition.

In Europe Sutton helped the hoops to the 2003 UEFA Cup Final after a 23 year run where they hadn’t survived into the new year involved in European competitions.

As a pundit Sutton has been amazed at the way Brendan Rodgers has turned the club around using a mix of old fashioned man management and cutting edge coaching techniques.

On Sunday Rodgers’ side will attempt to go one better than the Lions as they chase the treble and attempt to go through the season unbeaten domestically.
