Tierney’s return is like a new signing

|

After two months out of action Kieran Tierney is about to pick up on his Celtic career.

The teenager had been in outstanding form and formed a great partnership with Scott Sinclair prior to his injury.

Ankle ligament damage in training brought Tierney’s playing career to a halt as he swapped his boots for a scarf and returned to supporting the team from the stand.

Emilio Izaguirre never let Celtic down as he stepped back into the side- picking up a Betfred Cup medal, winning at Ibrox and picking up Champions League points away to Borussia Monchengladbach and Manchester City.

The artificial turf at Airdrie may restrict Tierney’s return to the substitute bench but there was no disguising Brendan Rodgers joy at getting the defender back into his plans.

The most important thing for Kieran was getting back fit, and for us it is like having a new signing,” the Celtic boss said in The Sun.

He is back training and played in a practice game, and he looked fantastic.

The time out allowed Kieran to repair his shoulder, and sort out the issue with his ankle.”

Tom Rogic, who was injured before Christmas, won’t be in the squad to face Airdrie with his ankle knock still causing concern.
