Eoghan O’Connell is on his way to Kilmarnock on loan.

The defender made a big impression during Celtic’s Champions League qualifiers but hasn’t had a look in since the return of Jozo Simunovic and arrival of Kolo Toure.

O’Connell had loan spells last season at Oldham and Cork City cut short by injury before being drafted into Brendan Rodgers side for the Champions League qualifier away to Astana.

The 21-year-old made his debut in April 2014 under Neil Lennon who was thought to be interested in taking the defender on loan to Hibs.

Kilmarnock are currently sitting in tenth place in the Premiership table, four points ahead of bottom placed Inverness Caley Thistle and three short of sixth placed Ross County.

O’Connell is likely to make his Killie debut at home to Hamilton in the Scottish Cup on January 21 with the next league match at home to Ross County a week later.

Lee Clark has had a tough time of things this season with supporters unhappy at the ownership of the club and the media rantings of star striker Kris Boyd.
