Sad Warbo plunges the depths

Mark Warburton was deep in denial as he watched Sevco draw 1-1 with Ross County- the third time this season his expensively assembled squad had failed to beat Jim McIntyre’s side.

If Alex Schalk had been in form County should have been three goals in front at half time but the visitors only had an 18th minute goal to show for their first half efforts.

The draw allowed Aberdeen to move into second place on goal difference with the Dons having the chance to go clear in midweek when they Motherwell visit Pittodrie.

Warbo, who used to work as a city trader, has come in for intense criticism since the midweek defeat from Hearts and now faces further attacks as Celtic prepare to lift the title.

It looks like #goingfor55 will be done and dusted by the time the final whistle goes on March 12 but Warbo was able to find silver linings from today’s draw.

I thought the second half was good,” The Sun reported Warbo saying. “We wanted to start the half brightly and see a very positive temp to the game. The first 15 was good then a poor, poor, goal to give away.

The result of that was that we were poor for the next 15 minutes and then finished the half strongly.

We were 1-0 down at Ibrox and we had to get a reaction to it and we did. We had 15 corners to one, 24 chances etc, but you have to score goals.

We got the goal but then chance after chance—you have to put the ball in the net. Goals change games, it’s a simple as that.”

Responding to the fans abuse at the final whistle Warbo added: ““I thought the support generally was good in the second half.

I don’t think they can accuse the players of not giving everything in the second half. There was wave after wave of going forward.

Wes had one save to make from a free-kick in the 92nd minute, that was the total of his contribution in the second half.

The support was very good. They’re going to boo, they expect Rangers to win at home.”
