Darren O’Dea had good reason to celebrate Dundee’s 2-1 win over Sevco last night.

The former Celtic defender spent his afternoon trying to keep his face out of range for Joey Garner’s elbow as Craig Thomson watched on.

First half goals from Mark O’Hara and Kevin Holt gave Dundee their first win of 2017 and went some way to making up for a last minute defeat at Ibrox in November.

O’Dea joined up with Paul Hartley’s side a year ago and is into his stride at the club after a varied time in his career that saw him playing in India, Canada and the Ukraine.

Selling Greig Stewart and Kane Hemmings at the start of the season was a big blow to Hartley’s hopes for the season but like all bar one of the Premiership clubs Dundee have to live within their means.

Yesterday’s well deserved win lifts the Dens Park side into the top half of the table but they remain closer to a relegation play-off spot than fifth placed St Johnstone.
