Murty takes it on the chin

|

Caretaker manager Graeme Murty had his Mowbray moment yesterday as he told his disheartened players to take the defeat from Dundee on the chin.

Ten days ago all that Murty had to bother about was to produce a fresh power point to justify the most recent defeat for the Sevco development side.

After the ‘resignations’ of Mark Warburton, David Weir and Frank McParland the Reading folk hero was put in charge of first team matters and looked cruelly out of his comfort zone.

Any coach would struggle to make something out of a side that includes Wesley Foderingham, James Tavernier, Andy Halliday and Martyn Waghorn but Murty’s side failed to provide any shape or purpose until Joe Garner pulled a goal out of nowhere.

This week Murt’s needs to put together a side capable of winning away to Inverness Caley Thistle knowing that his appointment ‘for the foreseeable future’ may come to a halt this weekend.

Slamming his players after the defeat at Dundee Murt’s told the Express: “You saw a team that struggled to turn it around when things went against them.

When your confidence takes a knock that can be a symptom. It’s disappointing. It’s not easy to put into words the emotions I and the players went through.

We have to be better than that and it’s not acceptable. We know that and they know that and we’ll take this on the chin but there are more than enough characters in the squad to turn it around.”
