Kieran Tirney has spoken out about the horror foul on him by Motherwell’s Ryan Bowman.

Midway through the second half of Celtic’s 2-0 win over Mark McGhee’s side the Celtic defender was preparing to take control of a pass.

With a straight leg challenge Bowman crashed into Tierney’s left knee which was fortunately off the ground.

As the Celtic defender received treatment referee Don Robertson spoke to Bowman and almost apologetically issued a yellow card.

If that was only worth a booking it’s scary to think what damage would have to be done to merit a red card from Robertson.

Straight away I thought something bad had happened,” Tierney told The Sun. “He caught me on the kneecap. It was a horrible challenge and my knee is all cut.

It was a bad tackle. He just said sorry to me after it. I didn’t say much back. I thought straight away it was a red card.

If you look at my knee just now, and the fact he caught me with his studs that high, then you’d think it would be, but that’s not my decision.”

Saturday’s ‘challenge’ on KT was just the latest in a long line of brutal attacks that Celtic players have been on the end of in recent weeks.

Scott Sinclair seems to be the most popular target with Ash Taylor, Andrew Shinnie and Iain Vigurs all putting in dangerous challenges on the former Aston Villa man that would bring a red card in most countries.
