Motherwell’s Louis Moult has claimed that Andrew Dallas told him that players can no longer tackle!

The striker asked the question after Carl McHugh was red carded in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat from Hearts at Fir Park.

Later in the game Dallas booked Malaury Marton of Hearts after Moult tripped over the foot of team mate Lionel Ainsworth.

It was a typical display from Dallas who looks way out of his depth refereeing matches at the top level.

His approach to handling matches shows the same levels of arrogance as his father, Hugh, characteristics that seem common place in the latest batch of officials highlighted by the dramatics of Willie Collum.

Looking at McHugh’s red card Moult told The Sun: “Carl has only gone solely to win the ball. He has not tried to do the player.

I asked the referee if you could still tackle now and he said no. If that’s the case I need to read the rules because I don’t know what they are any more.

I know I won’t go to ground on a slide tackle any more. Players need to be careful now. If you go to ground you give the ref a decision.”

Asked about Martin’s booking Moult admitted: “I tripped over Lionel Ainsworth and then he has booked a Hearts lad.

He has a hard job but maybe he can give himself a few seconds to ask the linesman what they think and not do it so suddenly.”

John Fleming, the SFA’s head of Referee Operations took 40 officials to La Manga last month for four days of training and analysis.
