Brendan Rodgers knows that Moussa Dembele is happy with where he is playing his football.

The Celtic striker started January as a transfer target of West Ham and ended it with speculation that Chelsea were keen to sign him.

If Dembele was interested in either club he could have joined them in the summer but instead opted to join Rodgers in Glasgow.

Seven months and 23 goals later nothing has changed- if anything the striker is even happier as he plays a key role in Celtic’s success which covers 28 wins and one draw domestically since the start of the season.

Asked about the recent speculation over Dembele Rodgers told the club website: “He knows that he’s at a club where he wants to be at – it doesn’t affect him. You see the difference when you have a number nine. We have played the last few games without one and young Pat (Patrick Roberts) has done brilliantly up there.

He (Moussa) could never start the game but we thought we could give him half an hour, come on and help the team and they were great finishes.”

Yesterday at St Johnstone Dembele was a 59th minute substitute for Gary Mackay-Steven and bagged a hat-trick with goals in the 61st, 75th and 85th minutes.

Despite missing the wins over Hearts and Aberdeen there seemed to be no ill-effect on the striker who had travelled to London in midweek for a scan on his knee.
