Celtic’s win over St Johnstone yesterday took the prospect of a sixth title even closer with fans anxiously trying to work out when to slot champagne into their diet of ice cream and jelly.
There are two aspects to the celebration with Aberdeen putting up some stubborn resistance while Sevco edge ever closer to seeing #goingfor55 being killed off on March 12 when they leave Celtic Park.
Following the March 12 fixture there will be ten games left allowing Warbo’s men to collect 30 points if they go on a club record winning run.
In the highly unlikely event of that happening Celtic would need to be 31 points ahead to kill off #goingfor55.
With a 27 point lead at the moment, and, touching wood assuming a home win on March 12, the hoops just require one extra point from the three matches before the Glasgow derby.
Celtic face Motherwell and Hamilton at home, either side of a trip to Inverness before welcoming Mark Warburton’s side to the east end. At the same time Warbo’s mob will face Dundee and Inverness away from home plus a visit from bogey team St Johnstone to Ibrox.
You’ll get very short odds on Celtic taking more points than Sevco from that run of fixtures.
On the other hand, in the real title race, Aberdeen have 15 matches left to play which gives Derek McInnes’ side the chance to add another 45 points to their total.
With 43 points from 23 matches so far 45 points from 15 games seems unlikely but should they win all of their remaining matches Celtic will require a further 19 points to win the title.
Six wins plus a goal difference advantage of 29 over Aberdeen should do the trick but if the Dons keep winning Celtic need to win seven matches to clinch the title.
After the run of four matches listed above the hoops take on Dundee and Hearts away from home with Partick Thistle at home on Wednesday April 5 providing title winning opportunities provided the hoops keep on winning and Aberdeen drop points.
