Why Celtic terrify opponents

It’s doubtful that any club worldwide has enjoyed a 25 point lead just 22 games into the league season.

The stats that this Celtic side are creating really are awesome but behind the figures is a style of football and attitude that is exactly what supporters want to see.

In the midst of winter with the title virtually tied up attracting 50,000 plus crowds three times in eight days is some achievement.

The team is wholly unrecognisable from last season although last night’s side contained only one player, Scott Sinclair, that wasn’t available to Ronny Deila last season.

Anyone watching Celtic last season would look on in disbelief at how the team is playing with individual improvements across the board and a collective that shrugs aside the absence of Moussa Dembele, Leigh Griffiths, Tom Rogic and Stuart Armstrong.

With Brendan Rodgers relentless drive for improvement no player can consider easing off unless they want called out as Griffiths was earlier this week.

There are further records waiting to be broken, game by game momentum is growing with Rodgers side embracing the challenges that they are setting themselves.

FIGHTING SPIRIT

It looks like it’ll be a long long time before this team is beaten at home.

Successive fixtures against St Johnstone, Hearts and Aberdeen over an eight day period could have provided a banana skin but Rodgers’ side aren’t looking for excuses.

Records are there to be challenged, embraced and broken as they write their own history with a relentless will to that shows no sign of flagging.

DEDRYCK BOYATA

We have a defender in this bhoy! It’s easy to say that ‘it’s just like a new signing’ but this season’s Boyata really is barely recognisable from last season’s nervy flop.

Even in posture Boyata looks different. Without looking laid back he is finding time on the ball and using his physique to impose himself on opponents.

He has barely put a foot wrong since returning, goals are a welcome bonus but it looks like the former Manchester City defender is in the side to stay.

He really is back to his best, again it looks like he is getting better with every game that he plays.

The full-back has barely had to pause for breath after a punishing schedule of four matches in 11 days.

His defending is sharp but going forward he is a constant threat, his overlaps provide Scott Sinclair with the opportunity to cut inside and cause mayhem.
