Following the news that Billy McNeill is suffering from dementia the thoughts of the Celtic support have been with the club icon and his family.
Legend is a term that is easily used these days, when it comes to big Billy it barely does justice to his contribution to Celtic.
Without his centre-half and leader it’s doubtful whether Jock Stein would have achieved the success he enjoyed at Celtic.

If Stein hadn’t returned to Celtic in 1965 McNeill would almost certainly have left Celtic in the summer, frustrated at his failure to win a single honour seven years after his debut.
Last night at Inverness the former skipper and manager was in the thoughts of the support as Celtic moved to just seven points away from winning the title.
As the players saluted the support at the end of the match it was McNeill the fans were singing about- although if anyone knows what Mikael Lustig was singing about please enlighten us!
