Joy at last for Murty

Graeme Murty couldn’t believe his luck as he enjoyed his first SPFL win as Sevco manager.

A last minute goal from Emerson Hyndman earned a 3-2 win over St Johnstone which keeps alive Sevco’s hopes of winning the SPFL title in their first season in the top flight.

That dream could be killed off in their next league outing at Celtic Park when they visit the champions elect but last night Murty was happy to celebrate his side’s 13th SPFL win of the season.

“’ve got a lot of emotions at the moment, but the main one is relief that a group of players who deserved the win, got their win,” the caretaker explained to The Sun.

They showed the bit of spirit we have been asking for. I’m relieved for the players because they have had a hard time of it.

Defensively they could have gone under, but they saw it through.

It’s easy to say that footballers don’t care. It’s an easy mistake to say that, and to say they are overpaid, they don’t care about the shirt, but the reactions at the end reveal that to be a lie.”

Last night’s win takes some of the heat off Murty with the Ibrox side still managerless three weeks after the departure of Mark Warburton and his management team.

Stewart Robertson boasted in the match programme about interviewing outstanding candidates for the jobs as Director of Football and first team coach.

Without the money to pay off Warbo and with March containing some expensive legal bills the favourite to take over as manager is Alex McLeish with an announcement expected on March 13- the day after facing Celtic.
