Clint Hill believes that finishing third in the SPFL would mean a successful season for Sevco.

The Ibrox club are currently sitting in third place, nine points behind Aberdeen and an incredible 33 points adrift of leaders Celtic.

At the start of the season Sevco launched their #goingfor55 campaign which was later watered down to finishing a strong second.

Hill has been the most successful of Mark Warburton’s summer signings but with the departure of the former city trader the club appears to be in free-fall.

If Hearts or St Johnstone could find any sort of consistency they’d be able to challenge for third place with the former QPR defender believing that finishing third would be a sign of success.

Asked that question Hill told The Sun: “With the current situation the club is in, and the situation it has been in for the last five years, then I think it would be, yes, unfortunately.

This club is built on success and winning things, and in any other circumstance being third is not a success but at the moment, where the club is, and the difficulties they have been in, I think getting a European spot would be counted as a success.

It was always European qualification that was one of the objectives this season.

Unfortunately we have let Aberdeen slip away from us a little bit. It’s still not over by any means. We still have to play them twice but European qualification was one of the main aims and objectives this season.”

Hill is one of only three players out of contract at the end of this season but like Kenny Miller and Pip Senderos he hasn’t had any recent talks about a new deal.
