Sevco’s bold plan to appoint the fifth best coach in Qatar as Mark Warburton’s replacement is hanging by a thread.

After failing to convince Ross Wilson to quit Southampton, Stewart Robertson is facing defeat in his bid to snap up Pedro Caixinha.

A fortnight after impressing the Ibrox chief at an interview in London the former Santos Laguna boss has still to agree to the cut price Ibrox deal.

As talks continue it seems certain that Al-Gharafa of Qatar will take a dim view of their current coach openly negotiating a move elsewhere.

Having the dream team in place to face Celtic on Sunday has been the plan but this morning the Daily Record has revealed that those plans are almost dead and buried with Sevco unable to put a contract in front of their number one choice.

A source told the Record: “Originally, the plan was to get the offer from Rangers agreed and then to negotiate Pedro’s way out of Al-Gharafa on Monday.

That would have allowed him to close the deal and then catch a flight to the UK but the talks were not as straightforward as he had hoped so everything has been placed on hold for another 24 hours. If all goes well then he will arrive in Glasgow on Wednesday.”

With Robertson’s failure to tie up the deal to bring in outstanding candidates it seems certain that caretaker boss Graeme Murty will be in charge for Sunday’s visit to Celtic.
