Disgraced Joey Barton has been booted out of football after being hit with an 18 month football ban for 10 years of gambling on football matches covering 1,260 betting offences.

The former Sevco playmaker was shown no mercy when he appeared before the FA today on the charges which came to light in December shortly before he signed for Burnley.

In addition to the 18 month ban Barton was fined £30,000.

Barton also fell foul of gambling rules during his brief time at Ibrox when he picked up a one match ban for placing 44 bets, the offence came to light after he fell out with Mark Warburton and was given a club suspension.

Burnley are expected to make a statement later about the punishment with Barton expected to make an appeal.

The 34-year-old made just five SPFL appearances for Sevco after signing a two year contract in the summer. After serving a suspension he agreed a pay off to quit the club and returned to Burnley where he was nominated for the Balon d’Or last season.
