Barry Ferguson has virtually talked himself out of a job at Ibrox.

The former Rangers (IL) skipper is one of five former players hoping to be appointed as the crucial number three in Brother Pedro’s back-room team.

Ferguson left Clyde facing relegation to the Lowland League when he quit the club earlier this year and has been touting himself for a job at Ibrox ever since.

On Sunday Sevco travel to Aberdeen knowing that anything less than a win kills off their hopes of finishing second to Celtic with the door opening to St Johnstone to take third place.

After the euphoria of a 4-0 win over Hamilton in Caixinha’s first match in charge reality has kicked in with draws against Motherwell and Kilmarnock.

Even the fifth best coach in Qatar has struggled to get results out of the best squad in Scotland with Ferguson joining in the despair of Wednesday’s 0-0 draw at Kilmarnock.

As he attempts to earn a job at Ibrox writing off the first team squad and praising the soon to be released Kenny Miller might not be the best of tactics.

Writing in the Daily Record Ferguson said: “To tell you the truth it was hard to take any positives out of that 0-0 draw as it has put the new manager on the back foot.

Kenny Miller, as always, added the kind of energy and drive that you expect from a Rangers player when he came on at half time. And he’s exactly the kind of guy that you’d want with you in the trenches at a place like Pittodrie.

I’m sure the manager appreciates that already. He’s lucky to have a leader like Kenny in his dressing room.

It’s early days where Pedro Caixinha is concerned and no-one should be rushing to conclusions. He’s only had three games in charge so let’s keep things in a bit of perspective.

He’s still trying to get his ideas across to the players and to find a system he feels comfortable with. These things take time.

He can’t change the personnel so he can only play with the cards he’s been dealt until the transfer market opens up. Listening to him, he already has some targets mind which tells me he’s already identified the areas which need to be strengthened.”

John Brown and Alex Rae are among the other RRM that have been interviewed to work alongside Brother Pedro.
