Monthly donations at fans group Club 1872 are down to around £40,000 per month.

Dave King created the new fans group in a blaze of publicity bringing together the Rangers Supporters Trust and Ranger First with the promise of blazers and a sup at the Loving Cup

Membership of Rangers First reached 10,000 fans paying £18.72 per month in the run up to Kin’s concert party takeover but since then subscriptions have crashed.

Resentment quickly built up as favoured placemen were given positions of power with the goal of a meaningful voice for fans diluted down to providing a vehicle for some egos.

Last month three of the seven directors walked away with a meeting held last week at Ibrox to try to resolve the latest crisis.

Monthly payments of £18.72 were intended to earn an independent seat in the boardroom building towards eventual fan ownership but with subscriptions tumbling the group is on the brink of collapse.

With Dave King about to step down and no one within the club prepared to take control there is a real power vacuum that is perfect for an effective supporters organisation to get involved.

The example of Hearts on the other side of the country provides a blueprint of how supporters can effectively organise themselves.

Surviving through till the end of the season looks a tough task for Sevco with the shadow of Mike Ashley cast across the club- it’ll take more than subscriptions of £40,000 a month to rescue the tribute act.
