With Brendan Rodgers committed to Celtic until 2021 the next big deal to complete is for Stuart Armstrong.

The midfielder has been outstanding in Celtic’s push for the treble with 10 goals since the start of January when he cemented his place in the team.

While the new contract is clearly good news for Rodgers a key element of the negotiations would be budget talks to see how far he can take the club.

Tom Rogic and James Forrest were awarded new deals in the early part of the season with Mikael Lustig and Craig Gordon rewarded since the turn of the year.

Armstrong is under contract until June 2018 but there will be a sigh of relief across the Celtic support when a new deal is announced.

Back in February 2015 when he signed, the midfielder would have got similar terms to Gary Mackay-Steven or perhaps less since £1.75m was paid for Armstrong with just a token fee paid out for the winger.

As emerging Scottish players neither player will be among the top earners at Celtic but with his performances and attitude Armstrong deserves his rewards.

Retaining the 25-year-old will send out a message that Celtic is a club to stay with and achieve your ambitions with rather than a stepping stone to Southampton.

It’s good to build on momentum, with Rodgers around to chase after 10 getting the former Dundee United man onto a new deal will be warmly welcomed by all Celtic fans #inbrendanwetrust.
