Sevco director John Gilligan was involved in a furious exchange with angry fans as Celtic won 5-1 at Ibrox today.

By the time that the third goal went in the Subway Loyal were on their way out of Ibrox but some die-hard fans stayed around in the Main Stand to give Gilligan and his fellow directors abuse.

Just over two years ago Gilly was a hero alongside Paul Murray as he masterminded Dave King’s takeover and was rewarded by a blazer and fresh set of brogues.

With no money to invest in the tribute act chickens have come home to roost with Gilly and friends in the firing line.

According to an eye witness account on the popular fans forum Follow Follow: “At 5-1 a number of fans near the directors box were clearly irate with the abject humiliation in front of them

“John Gilligan turned round beetroot in the face and proceeded to give a load back to them for a good minute

“Such was the nature of the exchange the stewards nearby couldn’t actually throw anyone out as Gilligan was as furious and aggressive as they were

“From top to bottom. A shambles.

“Yes I know people are all hurting. But the people in charge need to realise they are amateur at best in every aspect of our club right now.”

Gilly has always prided himself in being close to the fans, sharing the ideas and beliefs of the hard core support.

After last season’s Scottish Cup semi-final celebrations at Hampden Gilly’s over exuberance is believed to have hardened Dermot Demond’s decision to bring in Brendan Rodgers as manager.
