Scott Sinclair stated the glaringly obvious after Celtic’s 2-0 hammering of Sevco at Hampden yesterday.

The former Aston Villa man slotted home from the penalty spot as Celtic dominated their city neighbours throughout the 90 minutes.

Last month’s 1-1 draw at Celtic Park had been greeted with euphoria in some quarters that there might be an Ibrox title challenge next season.

Three clean sheets and the emergence of wonder kids Myles Beerman and David Bates had created a sense of anticipation going to Hampden but after Celtic had racked up 88% possession in the first 10 minutes reality was restored.

Hopefully we disprove Rangers are closing the gap on us with the way we keep winning every week,” Sinclair told The Daily Record.

It’s a great feeling to win and there’s a lot of relief in the team but the thing is that was one of the best performances we’ve had all season.

It was definitely as good as the 5-1 game in terms of the way we controlled the game from start to finish, the way we set up and the chances we created. It was excellent. The belief we had as a team was the most pleasing aspect right from the start.

From the dressing room and going out on to the pitch there was just a feeling everyone was on it.

As a player when you go out on to the field you sometimes just feel good and you can tell the team is feeling good. There was no doubt we knew we were going to win.”

Like team-mate Kieran Tierney, Sinclair missed out on the Betfred Cup final win over Aberdeen in November through injury.

The Hampden final against Aberdeen will be played two days after Celtic celebrate the 50th anniversary of the European Cup win in Lisbon with yesterday’s goal Sinclair’s 24th of the season.
