“The simple fact is that Rangers just aren’t good enough to compete with Celtic,” Sutton bluntly told Daily Record readers.
“We shouldn’t be looking at Pedro – he has been dealt a duff hand.
“Instead look at King because now it’s all down to what he does in the summer. They are miles short and will remain so until the chairman invests significant cash.
“There’s no doubt Pedro made a rod for his own back when he arrived eager to lift his morale-sapped squad with his well-intentioned declaration, critically undermined by the fact it was utter nonsense but he is not the guy who should be in the firing line for criticism from frustrated fans.”
Sutton added: “You could not make a case for a single member of the Rangers squad to get into the Celtic team – they are miles apart in a gulf of class that would span the Grand Canyon.
“So if Pedro ever hopes to one day be able to declare his players the best in the country without the sound of stifled giggles quickly following, he’ll have to rip this squad up and start again.”
