Chris Davies has revealed the moment that transformed Celtic’s season.

Towards the end of August the hoops were 2-0 down away to Hapoel Beer Sheva knowing that another goal would see them crash out of the Champions League.

Astra and Molde would be stepping in for Barcelona and Manchester City.

The thrills of a 5-2 win in the home leg were one kick of the ball away from being wiped out with the Israeli side tagged alongside Malmo and Maribor.

On the bench Brendan Rodgers was searching for solutions, he had already sent on Tom Rogic and Moussa Dembele to find an away goal.

Chris Davies remembers the moment well, regardless of what he achieves at Celtic he’ll never forget the the tension that the management team faced in Israel.

The Hapoel Be’er Sheva game was the worst headache I’ve had in my life at the side of the pitch,” Rodgers’ number two admitted to The Sun.

Towards the end we pacified the threat and Erik Sviatchenko coming on was a key moment for us. I felt we pacified them.

They were chasing and fighting and getting desperate so we had to defend well. We couldn’t pretend it wasn’t there. We had to deal with it and regulate it.

Brendan is good at doing that with the players and we’ll be ready. That’s why we have to have an awareness in making sure players get rest as we come towards the end of the season and face qualifiers.

It was an intense game but if we actually watched it again I’m sure it wasn’t that bad!”

Davies will have to go through a similar process next season with Celtic facing three qualifying rounds to return to the group phase of the Champions League.
