Barrie McKay faces the moment of truth on his Sevco future this week.

While Pedro Caixinha talks big in his media conferences the reality behind the scenes is a little different.

McKay is widely regarded as the club’s most sell-able asset but exactly which sort of team would be interested in a lightweight winger that struggles to hold down a place in an underperforming club is hard to identify.

Initial talks about a new deal quickly broke down when McKay was offered less than half the wages that England wonderboy Jordan Rossiter picks up.

Whether Caixinha can come up with a more appropriate deal will give an indication to the strength of the manager and the sort of war-chest that Dave King has created to stop seven-in-a-row.

After coming off the bench to score the equaliser against Partick Thistle McKay was low key about his contract expectations.

I think every player here needs to earn the shirt,” he told The Sun. “We want to play under the new manager so I think that’s up to them to do that.”

Caixinha is expected this week to tell some players that they are no longer required, with contracts until 2020 moving them on will be the trickier part.
