Over the last 48 hours Pedro Caixinha’s has lost out on his dream-team central defensive pairing for next season.

With Dave King keeping his war-chest under careful lock and key Brother Pedro has been forced to search for free transfers for next season’s challenge.

Veteran Portuguese defender Bruno Alves has no interest in swapping Serie A for Ibrox with a year still to run on his Cagliari contract.

A good-bye message on twitter last week from Rashid Sumaila of Al-Gharafa generated lots of excitement in anticipation that the six times capped Ghana defender could be on his way to Ibrox.

It seemed a done deal that Sumaila would be re-united with Caixinha at Ibrox but according to a report in The Sun the defender is returning to Qadsia SC where he has THREE years left on his contract.

With those doors closing it looks increasingly likely that Sevco will go into their Europa League campaign with a central defensive partnership of David Bates and Rob Kiernan.

Last week Clint Hill and Pip Senderos were told that their contracts wouldn’t be renewed with the only other central defender, Danny Wilson waiting to discover the extent of the knee injury which has ended his season.

Last week Will Vaulks admitted that he’d rather stay with League One Rotherham than consider a move to Ibrox.
